A few questions before I get my hands dirty:

1. Has anyone tried one rail inside and out instead of two outside rails?

2. Has anyone come up with a tasteful way to fix a small electronic motor to the stern? (I know its going to look odd at best)

Something to consider with the inner rail is that you will most likely find that you will need to sit on the floor when sailing in stiff breezes. An inner rail might be uncomfortable to rest your back against.

Regarding a motor mount, look into something designed for a canoe like this http://www.canoegear.com/catalog/product.php?productid=155&cat=57&page=1

This particular one looks like you would need an inner rail.
