Greetings fellow Skerry builders. First of all let me thank everyone here, I have been getting inspiration and advice from this site for quite some time now. In fact Steve's building a Skerry site pushed me over the edge and got me to finally order the kit in the first place.
My boat is almost done and I realize I need a trailer. The Trailex trailers on the CLC site are a bit rich for my blood and carry a pretty light load. I have been looking at a KARAVAN trailer which is a bit cheaper and seems like a reputable brand. My concern is this trailer is rated at 1250 pound and my poor little Skerry is only a bit over 100 pounds soaking wet (so to speak). Even if I load my boat up with several hundred pounds of "stuff" I'll still have a lot of excess capacity. The boat yard people assure me that this is not a problem and tell me the 12 inch tires on this rig will add to bearing life. This is all new to me so I don't know exactly what to do.
Time is pressing upon me since we are leaving on 7/16 for two and a half weeks on Chebeaque Island off the coast of Maine. Obviously I want to bring my newly minted Skerry along.
Can anyone weigh in with thoughts or advice? Thanks in advance.

My Skerry rides on a Karavan Trailer. I removed the center of the three leaf springs on each side to soften up the ride for the lightweight Skerry. I replaced the factory leafspring clips with stainless hose clamps which I check often. I also cut the excessively-long tounge down by about 18 inches so it would fit in my garage

The trailer has served me flawlessly for what is now getting near ten thousand miles. I have had to tow over some pretty rough roads to access some of the best lakes out here in the West, and the large tires and galvanized steel trailer frame have always given me reason for confidence. I don't know where you are located Paul, but I wouldn't think twice about towing my Skerry from Montana to Maine on the Karavan.

David,
Thanks for the reassuring information. I'll be picking the trailer up tomorrow afternoon and will hopefully have my boat (to be named Therapy) in the water on the 4th of July!
