How is the strength of a Skerry? Has anyone sufferred damage from collisions with floating objects like logs?
After a few years of occassional use on the water, how does the Skerry hold up? Does water eventually infiltrate the plywood? Overall are you happy with the Skerry? Is there anyone that has built it, that now thinks it was a mistake? |

Not to worry Dave its a strong little ship. I don't abuse it but I use it alot. Still has original paint and varnish. I do store it in the garage. Did you check CLC's owners club to see if any are near you?
cheers, greg. |

Yes, I checked the owners list. I believe the closest owners were in Michigan. I went to the Strictly Sail show in Chicago last weekend hoping to see the Skerry at the CLC booth but was disapointed not to see one.

The bottom is scraped up from rocks, but it's just cosmetic. I think mine is now 6 years old and I still thoroughly enjoy it.

We've got four summers on the water, rowing and sailing, and there is no sign of fatigue anywhere on the boat.
We have rocky shores, and the bottom gets scraped up. But we have a painted hull, and one thing I am sort of careful about is to fill any scratches with polyester resin filler and touch up the paint about twice a season. Partly that's because I like to fiddle with it though. It's about time to replace the leathers on my oars, but otherwise things look pretty good. Definitely no regrets. - Bob |
