I just received my order of double braided dacron line in the various thicknesses (e.g., 3/16", 1/4" and 7/16"). It appears the supplier (Hamilton) taped the lines before cutting them, but did not cut and fuse the ends with a hot rope cutter.

Can I fuse the ends by simply cutting them with a red hot knife?

Or, do they need to be whipped as three stranded line would need to be whipped?

Does the line thickness have any impact on the answer?

Thanks in advance for your consideration and feedback.

The quickest would be to hold a match, lighter, or candle very near the taped end to melt it. I usually do this outside so I don't have to breath the fumes or worry about fire. Whipping would work too.
