I just re-visited the trip reports and read one I must have missed earlier.

Steven's family's experience with the black bears sounds harrowing. The bears didn't seem very timid, and with very small children around it must have been pretty unsettling.

My 15-year-old son just had a bear jump into a creek with him while he was fly fishing last week. It spooked him pretty good. I'm assuming it was a black bear because they are much more common than grizzlies in the area he was in. Evidently it drank some water and took off without taking much notice of Kris.

I was more concerned about them tearing the campsite apart than I was about them coming after us.
