Go figure. When the weather is nice and we have a 7:00am start, we can't get anyone to show for the sunday morning ride. But, as soon as we change to a 6:30am start and we have torrential downpouring, just about everyone shows.
Despite getting soaked within the first 10 minutes, we had a great ride this past sunday. Chris W., Chris H., Jeff, Bobby G., and I explored some new trails through the Blue hills. It was a mixture of carriage paths, single track, and rocks, with very little level ground (per usual, there always seemed to be more climbing than descending). Given that it is early in the season and we are all just getting our riding legs back (I think this might have even been Bobby G's first ride of the season), we kept up a respectable pace for almost two hours. We did come up short on some of the climbs, but that just gives us something to aspire to on the coming rides. Back at the parking lot, Chris W. broke out his Camera Phone to capture our soaked state. Chris H. has got it figured out. As he changed in the comfort of his Van, the rest of us wrestled our clothes behind the steering wheels of cramped vehicles. Before the ride, I looked over to see Bobby G. struggling to inflate his tires with a minature pump as Chris H. was effortlessly using a compressor from the rear of his van. |
